My Year of Review: 2013

Image
Looking back at 2013. Lots of things happened this year, with twists and turns in my life.  Overall, this has been a okay. I've grown and learned and developed in ways I did not perform well in 2012.  I have tightened the emotions and feelings inside, loosened some and discovered much about myself and those around me. The year went so quick with busy days with learning's, work and travelling. Conferences I have attended two conferences this year.   1. BarCamp Bangalore. Attended a half day event, meeting testing professionals from india. ( Website ) 2. STC QAI Conference, Bangalore. Thanks to Testing Circus for giving me opportunity to attend two days long conference and meeting testing professionals all over the world. I have found myself as a kid, learning new things from the testing professionals. ( Website )

Image
I’ve been a bit busy lately with work and Weekend Testing, Learning new concepts and trying to learn more. Hence the lack of updates on my blog.  Recently, I had a conversation with testers on twitter: Searching with Special characters shows 502 error is it fine ? #testingerrors — Srinivas Kadiyala (@srinivasskc) November 26, 2013 @srinivasskc That's Bad Gateway (#502). It is not fine and it needs to be handled by server side to avoid that message to be shown to user. — Santhosh Tuppad (@santhoshst) November 26, 2013 @srinivasskc You should also investigate the logs at server side if possible. It can reveal, that problem is worse than just stupid err msg — Teemu Vesala (@teemuvesala) November 26, 2013 @teemuvesala How can we check the logs at server side? — Srinivas Kadiyala (@srinivasskc) November 26, 2013 @srinivasskc Ask from sysadmin if you can get access to error log. Send the special chars, see the last lines investigate what errors are.

Google Reader is Dead ... Now What's Next ??

Image
Google has shutdown its services of Google Reader, popular RSS subscription reader on July 1,2013. I took long time to research for the alternatives which can match my interests and give same ability of Google Reader. First, I found " Old Reader " - It was simple and looks like a Google Reader. But It has followed by outages for few days due to hard drives crashed. And they now planned to make it private from public. Second, " Feedly "   : It looked like No.1 Alternative in many websites. It is having good clean design with Magazine kind of layout. Now, Feedly announced Pro Accounts for $5 per month or $45 per year. Third, " Digg Reader ": Surprised the world with Simple interface and closely resembles the other feed readers. Now, I keep a backup : After the Outage of Old Reader for 5 days, I learnt to have a backup for every thing. Now, I use both Feedly and Digg to read my feeds. Lesson Learnt : Don't get attached to FREE prod

Its your Life.... Let go forward in Life…

Life is full of challenges, interesting twists, love, passion, emotions, egos, adventures, comfort etc. "7" is my memorable number in my life.  Here are 7 things, that i have learnt f rom the past life. PAST FAILURES Everyone goes through tough times – Success and Failures comes in life. Never think that you are alone in your life and remember there is always something that we are behind to achieve in life.  Stop thinking about the past and start thinking on what you are doing right now and move forward.  “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start       today and        make a new ending” – Maria Robinson STOP PROCRASTINATING If you want to achieve what you want in your life, stop procrastinating and take control to change the situation with responsibility to move forward. “Act as though, It is Impossible to fail” - Dorothea Brande Be a Leader Stop playing blame game on others. Stand up and take the leadersh

Software Testing Good Practices

Image
The following are some good practices, I have learnt for doing testing. Before you start the testing the product, Understand the product Architecture. Understanding the architecture and working of the product, can help you see more error prone areas and can cover large amount of errors in less time. The Error prone areas may mostly occurs on the interfaces between the different modules, as different programmers work on different modules in a product development. See the potential misuses and verify how the software works with those issues. If application is working perfectly as per it is intended, then don’t stop the testing. Just like a detective solves a murder mystery and the testers has to find out the any ways of potential misuses and how the software works unexpectedly with those issues.  Sherlock Holmes is Top Fiction Detective Think like an End User, who has no idea of how to use the product, explore it (or)  Think like a Hacker try to find out meth

Tests using (Design and Functional) Specifications (Part-2)

Image
In the previous post: We have learnt about " Tests without Specifications (Part -1) ". If you have missed it: Click here . Now, we will do in contrast " Tests using (Design and Functional) Specifications (Part-2) " Read the Project Documentations: There are different kinds of documents may be available:                 Design Specifications                Requirement Specifications                Functional Specifications                User Guides / Manuals These documents are very important and can help to build the product and test it. Seek Guidance … Ask others: To understand “what to be tested”, you must learn to ask others about the product and seek guidance who has relevant knowledge about the product workflow. Use  Test Case Design Techniques: The test case designs can be developed using these three important techniques:   User based Scenarios   Boundary value Analysis (BVA)   Equivalence Partitioning
